Design Process
When Samantha Wills is designing a new collection in preparation for a new season, she has quite a long process of about nine months from when she first starts up with an idea, to when we see it on the shelves at stores.
The first step is to decide what style and colour schemes she wants to take on that season. Sometimes this is designed around a particular idea she has in her head, or inspiration she has found. Whatever it is, she always ensure there is a story behind it to pitch to the future possible buyers, simply as a business strategy.
Then she starts designing. There is about a six week process of sketching and designing, pitching her idea to her team, getting constructive criticism from many people.
When this is finalised, she sends it off to the production house. They make and send back to her samples of what her designs will look like. She makes changes, then sends it back off again, so they can send her another sample of the new and improved design. This can happen as many times as necessary before her and her team are completely happy with the finished product,
When this happens, the moulds of the jewelry get casted, and Wills decides what plating and stone they want in it. Again, they send it off to the production house to get samples back, and continue to do so until they are happy with what they have. After that, all that is left to do is make final selections about which pieces they want to include in their collection, and take photoshoots of them to present to retailers, who put them on the shelves.
